The URC (Unit Run Canteen) operates as a retail establishment designed to serve the needs of CSD Canteen beneficiaries, which include personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as former service members and OFB staff and officers. Generally, Head Unit Officers on temporary assignment supervise these canteens, while Group A officers are appointed as Managers for a designated period. These managers are tasked with overseeing all aspects of the canteen’s operations, which include purchasing, managing inventory, handling sales, processing payroll, and overseeing expenses, along with other responsibilities.
