As per the new guidelines, Defence Personnel in pay levels 3 to 5 are allowed to buy a total of four cars over their lifetime, while those in pay matrix levels 6 to 9 may purchase up to five cars during their lifetime.

2024 New CSD Car Policy for Other Ranks (ORs)
Individuals at the Sepoy or equivalent ranks in the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, spanning pay levels 3A to 5, are subject to particular rules regarding their CSD Car Eligibility and entitlements for vehicle purchases through the Canteen Stores Department (CSD). This group encompasses current service members, veterans, widows, and their dependents. For those in pay levels 3 to 5, which includes both active and retired personnel, as well as pensioners and their families, the upper limit for buying a car from CSD is set at 8 lakhs, not including taxes.
Each eligible person is permitted to acquire up to four vehicles throughout their lifetime. The first purchase can take place only after five years of service, and there is a required waiting period of eight years between buying additional cars. If a widow of a pensioner wishes to use this benefit, she may purchase a vehicle using her late spouse’s remaining allowance, provided he hasn’t already used the full entitlement of four cars during his lifetime.
It’s crucial to note that if the deceased had already reached the maximum limit of four vehicle purchases, the widow cannot claim this benefit. Furthermore, compliance with the eight-year gap between vehicle purchases is essential, highlighting the importance of prudent management and equitable allocation of benefits within this framework.

Non-Commissioned Officers (NCOs) in the Indian Army, along with Subordinate Majors in the Naval Branch and their counterparts in the Indian Air Force and Navy, are now benefiting from a revised policy. This new regulation allows Defense Personnel in pay grades 6 to 9, primarily Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), to purchase up to five vehicles over their lifetime via the Canteen Stores Department (CSD) Armed Forces Depot (AFD) online platform.
Retired service members and widows are also included in this initiative, ensuring they can access the same benefits. The first vehicle can be obtained after five years of loyal service, with a required waiting period of eight years for additional purchases. This change represents a notable advancement from the former rule, which limited acquisitions to just three cars. Furthermore, each vehicle can be purchased within a budget of 10 lakhs (excluding taxes), reflecting a strong commitment to supporting and honoring the sacrifices of our armed forces and their families.

CSD Car Eligibility Vehicle: The 2024 CSD Electric Vehicle (EV) Car Policy has seen some changes aimed at benefiting military members selecting an EV for their initial purchase. Under the revised guidelines, these individuals can now acquire their next vehicle after just six years, instead of the standard eight-year waiting period. However, it’s crucial to understand that the following vehicle can only be purchased after completing a full eight-year term.
CSD Car Eligibility for Agniveers and Students of Military Schools
The Canteen Stores Department, commonly referred to as CSD, provides benefits for Agniveers, students attending Sainik and Military Schools, as well as Officer Cadets in Training Academies. Both Agniveers and Sainik/Military School students have the opportunity to buy groceries valued at up to 3,500 rupees monthly with Steel Cards. Upon finishing their training, newly commissioned officers and Agniveers are issued grocery and liquor cards at their respective Training Academies and Centers. Officer Cadets in Training Academies receive a ‘Personalised CSD Smart Card,’ enabling them to purchase groceries worth 5,000 rupees monthly and AFD-II items totaling up to 20,000 rupees annually.
